GENERAL PRACTICE RESIDENCY IN DENTISTRY

Program Goals and Objectives

  • To provide residents with training experiences which refine and advance their knowledge and skills in clinical dentistry, with emphasis on diagnosis, treatment planning, and comprehensive dental care.
  • To advance resident skills in the management of medically-compromised patients, including physical evaluation and risk assessment.
  • To advance the knowledge and understanding of the interrelationships of systemic and oral health and how various medical disorders affect dental treatment planning and care.
  • To provide training experiences in hospital protocol, management of patients in the hospital setting, inpatient rounds, and interaction with other hospital professionals.
  • To provide training experiences in dental rehabilitation in the operating room.
  • To advance the knowledge and skills of residents in the management of dental emergencies.
  • To provide training experiences in the diagnosis and management of oral pathologic conditions associated with cancer therapy.
  • To advance resident skills in the critical review of scientific literature.
  • To create an awareness of the dental professional’s role in community service by providing a variety of experiences on and off the hospital campus.
