The biological processes underlying dental medicine are diverse. The BSDM program provides scientific training across academic disciplines including genetics, immunology, microbiology, molecular and cell biology, and developmental biology. BSDM graduates are prepared to become leaders and independent investigators in dental and medical schools as well as industry.
The BSDM program faculty are based in the Longwood Medical Area Harvard community and the Harvard Cambridge campus.
Applications for admission are accepted from students who have received a bachelor's degree or equivalent training. First-year graduate studies normally begin in September.
Matriculated students are guaranteed tuition and stipend support as long as they are making satisfactory progress in the program.
AGE Program in Orthodontics
It is the mission of the Harvard School of Dental Medicine's Orthodontic Program to provide carefully selected dentists with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide ethical, patient-centered, evidence-based orthodontic treatment. In addition, we hope to graduate specialists who possess high-level technical skills, a comprehensive scientific foundation, and a thirst for knowledge, and will play a leadership role in the clinical specialty, education, and research.
Our postdoctoral program is a three year (MMSc) or four year (DMSc) program leading to a Certificate in Orthodontics and either the Master or Doctor of Medical Sciences degree. The program places equal emphasis on clinical ability and research skills. Each year there are approximately three openings for new students in the program. Due to the limited number of vacancies, and large number of applicants, admission to the program is highly competitive. The application deadline is August 31st of each year for admission to the class beginning the following July 1st. In addition, the Graduate Orthodontics Program participates in the MATCH Program.
