DEPARTMENT OF ORAL MEDICINE, INFECTION AND IMMUNITY:

The Department of Oral Medicine, Infection and Immunity is a growing Department heavily invested in cutting edge research and the training of postgraduate students in the fields of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, Oral Medicine and Periodontology.

The Department has a long tradition of integrating students at the predoctoral and postdoctoral levels into research laboratories and successful mentoring relationships. Department training programs and research laboratories have been funded over the years by a wide array of government and private-sector grants and fellowships, including a National Institute of Health (NIH) Training Grant, which funds predoctoral and postdoctoral research projects.

The Department also sponsors special programs that provide Harvard School of Dental Medicine students the opportunity to learn from and interact with nationally known academics.

In addition to its tremendous investment in research, the Department contributes clinical expertise to the School. Its faculty provides oral medicine consultation services based at the Division of Oral Medicine and Dentistry at the Brigham & Women's Hospital. It also provides oral and maxillofacial pathology/diagnostic services via its biopsy service that is based at Pathology Services Incorporated, a surgical pathology reference laboratory that specializes in oral and maxillofacial pathology and skin pathology. For more information, please call 1-800-325-PATH(7284) or visit the website at www. pathsrv.com. This is a full service laboratory that offers daily on-site direct immunofluorescence services and immunohistochemistry studies.
