ELECTIVE CLASSES AND ROTATIONS

Elective classes are chosen at the discretion of students depending on their research interests.

A number of elective rotations are available to students according to their interests and available time.

Dermatology: - back to top

A 1 month clinical clerkship in dermatology is available, in which students can become familiar with the diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of skin conditions and neoplasms. A detailed description of the activities and faculty are available in the Harvard Medical Shool catalog.

Dermatopathology:

A rotation in dermatopathology is available with staff pathologists at Pathology Services, Inc. (PSI). This private dermatopathology and oral pathology service receives over 60,000 skin biopsies yearly, and dermatology and dermatopathology residents from the Harvard Medical School affiliated hospitals rotate through PSI for dermatopathology experience and training. PSI encourages Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology students to participate in dermatopathology rotations at PSI on the same basis as other residents. Supervision is provided by the dermatopathology staff at PSI, listed in the appendix.

Otorhinolaryngology:

A 1 month clinical clerkship in otolaryngology is available to students. The clerkship is offered at the Brigham and Women's Hospital. The objective of this clerkship is to familiarize participants with techniques of ear, nose and throat examination, to review the concepts of normal function and diseases of these regions and to participate in patient management. Details of the rotation and faculty are provided in the Harvard Medical School catalog.

Hematology/Oncology:

A 2-4 week clinical ckerkship in medical hematology/oncology is available to students at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. according to The objective of the rotation is to familiarize the participant in current concepts of the diagnosis, biology and management of cancer in the hospital setting.
