Biography / Clinical / Academic / Research interests
Dr. Ralph Kent is Associate Professor in the Department of Oral Epidemiology and Health Policy at HSDM and also Resident Member of the Staff and Head, Office of Biostatistics at Forsyth Institute. He has worked with virtually all departments at Forsyth on a wide variety of research studies, involving use of a broad range of statistical, epidemiologic and biometric concepts and methods. His primary activity is collaboration with principal investigators on research design, statistical methods and data analysis. Current collaborations include biostatistical support for the Forsyth Satellite of the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centers General Clinical Research Center, a randomized intervention study evaluating whether treatment of severe periodontitis improves systemic endothelial status, a nonhuman primate study of periodontitis and preterm birth, development and composition of intraoral biofilms, several studies of clinical, microbial and immunologic factors before and after periodontal therapies, and a study of microbial factors in childhood caries, particularly severe Early Childhood Caries. Dr. Kent established the course OHPE 741, Clinical Research Design for Oral Health Research.
