Dr. R. Bruce Donoff

Biographical Sketch 

Dr. Hayes was born in Boston and received her B.S. in Biology from Boston College in 1983 and her D.M.D. from Tufts University in 1987. She completed a General Practice Residency at Brigham and Women's Hospital in 1988 and received both Master's (1989) and Doctoral (1993) degrees in Epidemiology from Harvard University. Dr. Hayes is a diplomate of the American Board of Dental Public Health and is currently a director on the same board. She is an Associate Professor in the Department of Oral Health Policy and Epidemiology at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine and the Department of Epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health. She is a faculty member in the Oral Epidemiology training program and mentors Master's and Doctoral students in epidemiology. Dr. Hayes teaches research design and biostatistics to HSDM students and also directs the pre doctoral research program. She has held leadership positions in national and international organizations and has published numerous articles and book chapters in the field of dental public health and epidemiology. Her primary research interests include the epidemiology of craniofacial anomalies and health services research in dentistry. She is currently a Core Epidemiologist for the Center for Research to Evaluate and Eliminate Dental Disparities(CREEDD) and is Principal Investigator of a study within the center entitled: The Effect of Severe Early Childhood Caries (ECC) on growth in young children.


Clinical / Academic / Research interests

Dr. Hayes participates in numerous community service activities related to dental public health. Her research focuses on the epidemiology of craniofacial anomalies and oral health disparities.
