Thomas B. Dodson, DMD '84, MPH '84, a professor of oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMFS) at HSDM and director of the Center for Applied Clinical Investigation at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), together with Seenu Susarla, DMD '07, MPH '07, MD '10, a resident in OMFS at MGH, received the 2011 Daniel Laskin Award from the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Foundation. This annual award is given for the best article published in the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery during the preceding year. Susarla and Dodson were honored for two papers, "Validation of a Diagnostic Protocol Used to Identify Intimate Partner Violence in the Emergency Department Setting" (with coauthor Vincent J. Perciaccante of Emory University School of Medicine) and "Markers for Intimate Partner Violence in the Emergency Department Setting" (with coauthors Perciaccante and dentist John W. Carey). This work was completed as a two-center study at MGH and Emory. Dodson also received the Laskin Award in 2004. The award was established in recognition of Dr. Laskin's many years as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
