# Coronavirus Response on Campus

March 17, 2020

Harvard University and Harvard School of Dental Medicine are closely monitoring the ongoing Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak. As the situation continues to change rapidly, the top priority remains the health, safety, and well-being of our community, on and off campus. Please refer to [Harvard’s coronavirus webpage](https://www.harvard.edu/coronavirus) for updates.

We are planning for several contingency scenarios and taking decisive, informed action to limit the spread of COVID-19 while ensuring the continuity of our teaching and research mission. These efforts involve moving to virtual learning when in-person training is not required, asking students to refrain from returning to campus unless absolutely necessary to meet graduation requirements, and encouraging our workforce to work remotely. We will continue to update the community regularly to keep you informed of additional measures.

Additionally, Harvard University Health Services (HUHS) urges the Harvard community to continue to be vigilant and take precautions to prevent the spread of illnesses. Simple measures such as hand washing, and social distancing can help lower your risk of getting sick. A comprehensive Q&A that responds to common coronavirus concerns can be found on their [website](https://huhs.harvard.edu/about-us/announcements-events/coronavirus-information-and-update).

Starting Monday, March 23, the Harvard Dental Center will now be triaging all emergency consultations through tele-dentistry. Emergency calls will be directed to an on-call doctor that will help patients via teleconference communication. All elective appointments will be rescheduled until further notice.

Patients will be notified by an HDC staff member of appointment changes. Patients with questions regarding upcoming appointments may also call (617) 432-1434, contact the HDC by [email](mailto:///clinical_affairs@hsdm.harvard.edu), or use the [online appointment form](https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=9CL6b2hFBUGtQy461HJpV-o_HuxikltHsPYlvx9Xum1UN1IwNDBPRksxMlJUTVQ5VzhBUU42R1NMRS4u) to request or cancel appointments as needed.
