Dr. Nathaniel Treister is chief of the divisions of oral medicine and dentistry at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, Massachusetts. He earned his DMD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine and completed his oral medicine certificate and oral biology doctoral training at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM), where he is an associate professor in the Department of Oral Medicine, Infection, and Immunity (OMII).

Treister is board certified in oral medicine and practices at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, with a special interest in oral mucosal diseases, salivary gland diseases, and oral complications in cancer patients. He has published extensively on the oral complications of hematopoietic cell transplantation and chronic graft-versus-host disease. He is currently the director of HSDM's advanced graduate education oral medicine program.

Treister's clinical and research interests focus on diagnosing and managing oral complications in cancer patients. He works closely with disease programs at the Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women's Cancer Center, including hematologic malignancies and stem cell transplantation, head and neck oncology, and sarcoma and bone oncology. He actively sees patients and collaborates on clinical research initiatives. His research aims to define oral complications of cancer and therapies, explore their underlying mechanisms, and evaluate approaches to diagnosis and management, with the goal of improving long-term outcomes.
