Join us for a special event featuring former North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper. In a nearly decade-long effort, Governor Cooper led the charge to expand Medicaid in North Carolina—bringing healthcare access to 650,000 more residents as of 2025. He also implemented an ambitious plan to incentivize hospitals to forgive over $4 billion in medical debt for 2 million eligible North Carolinians and to help prevent future medical debt.

About the speaker

Roy Cooper served as the 75th Governor of North Carolina, first elected in 2016. Throughout his tenure, he focused on job creation, strengthening public education, and building a more equitable North Carolina. A native of the state, Cooper earned both his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He practiced law in Rocky Mount, where he and his wife, Kristin, raised their three daughters. Cooper previously served in the state legislature (1987–2001) and as North Carolina’s Attorney General (2001–2017).
