Dr. Salim Afshar

Assistant Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Dr. Afshar practices the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery, with a specific focus on head and neck pathology. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and is an attending surgeon in the Department of Plastic and Oral Surgery at Boston Children's Hospital where he trains and teaches surgical residents and students. Afshar is also part of the Head and Neck Surgical Team and the Vascular Anomalies Team. 

Ashar’s research interests are in three main areas: innovation, global healthcare delivery, and head and neck cysts, tumors and vascular lesions. 

Raised in Boston, Afshar completed his undergraduate work at Boston University before receiving his DMD from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. He then received his MD degree from Harvard Medical School and completed his surgical residency training in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital.
