Dr. Samuel Coffin

Assistant Professor of Restorative Dentistry and Biomaterials Sciences

Dr. Samuel Coffin received his DMD degree from the Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine. He completed a two-year hospital-based general practice residency at the West Roxbury VA Hospital, combined with a postdoctoral fellowship at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM). He later earned his MBA in Health Care Management from the Boston University Graduate School of Management.

After spending four years in private practice, Coffin returned to the VA as a staff dentist, where he was involved in the on-site advanced graduate periodontics and general practice residencies. He also served three years in local VA administration, taking on additional responsibilities as a quality management analyst.

Active in the Academy of General Dentistry, Coffin received his Fellowship (FAGD) and served as president of the national VA constituent. He has taught predoctoral prosthodontics at both Boston University and HSDM. In 2014, Coffin returned to HSDM as a senior tutor for the Cannon Society and an instructor in Restorative Dentistry and Biomaterials Sciences. Coffin's professional interests include dental practice management, infection control, and the role of advanced-trained general dentists. He continues to focus on the oral health of American veterans.
