Pediatric Dentistry

Program overview

Pediatric Dentistry is an affiliated program of Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM). Clinical training is primarily conducted at Boston Children’s Hospital or at our  22-chair, state-of-the art clinic at 2 Brookline Place. The residency program is a stipend program, and salary is based on academic year (PGY-1 or PGY-2). The AY2027 salary is currently $81,919 (PGY-1) and $88,340 (PGY-2). In addition, we provide a $10,000 cost of living stipend that is dispersed in full at the beginning of the academic year.

The residency provides a full range of training for the pediatric dental residents in the following areas:

  • Advocacy
  • Emergency care/trauma
  • Endodontics
  • Hospital dentistry (medically complex patients and those with special health care needs)
  • Oral and maxillofacial surgery
  • Orthodontics
  • Periodontics
  • Preventive dentistry
  • Prosthetics
  • Restorative dentistry
  • Sedation

The department’s senior staff and house officers also serve as members of special patient teams within the hospital, treating patients with cleft lip and palate, other craniofacial anomalies, developmental medicine (e.g., autism, cerebral palsy), or Down Syndrome.
