Dr. Smaragda Diamanti
European University Cyprus
Dr. Diamanti is an associate professor of oral medicine and oral pathology at the School of Dentistry at European University Cyprus and a major general in the Hellenic Air Force. She also serves as vice chair of the School of Dentistry, a position she has held since 2022.
Diamanti graduated from the School of Dentistry at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, where she specialized in oral medicine and earned her PhD in 2016. She trained in aerospace medicine at the U.S. Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine at Brooks Air Force Base in Texas and received additional training in the management of vesiculobullous mucocutaneous diseases at Federico II University of Naples.
From 2007 to 2020, Diamanti served as director of the Department of Oral Medicine at the 251 Hellenic Air Force General Hospital. She concurrently served as director of the hospital’s Dental Sector from 2015 to 2019. She joined European University Cyprus as an assistant professor of oral medicine and oral pathology in 2019 and was appointed associate professor in 2025.
Diamanti has received honorary distinctions and medals from the Hellenic Air Force General Staff. She has delivered lectures and presentations at national and international conferences and contributed to Greek and international journals and book chapters.

Dr. Alessandro Villa is chief of Oral Medicine, Oral Oncology, and Dentistry at the Herbert Wertheim Cancer Institute at Baptist Health South Florida and a professor at Florida International University’s Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine.
Villa’s clinical and academic work focuses on diagnosing and managing complex oral diseases in patients with cancer, including oral mucositis, salivary gland dysfunction, oral potentially malignant disorders, and medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw. He has led and participated in clinical trials and multidisciplinary research initiatives aimed at improving oral health and quality of life for patients with cancer.
Villa is president of the International Society of Oral Oncology and president-elect of the American Academy of Oral Medicine. He previously held academic and clinical leadership positions at Harvard School of Dental Medicine, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and the University of California, San Francisco. He has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications and is an international speaker and educator.
