The Harvard School of Dental Medicine’s Dental Implant Symposium brings together global experts to explore the latest digital tools and techniques in implant dentistry.
Over two days, you’ll hear from leaders in guided surgery, prosthodontics, artificial intelligence, regenerative dentistry, and team-based care—sharing practical tips, new research, and a look at what’s ahead for the field.

Meet the distinguished faculty of the Harvard School of Dental Medicine alongside guest experts. Explore their bios below to learn more about their expertise, research, and contributions to the field.
Dr. Wael Att is a professor of prosthodontics at the School of Dentistry, University of Freiburg, Germany, and former professor and chair of the Department of Prosthodontics at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He is the co-founder of The Face Dental Group in Boston.
He serves as head of the United States Education Delegate for the International Team for Implantology (ITI) and as the United States Ambassador for the European Association for Osseointegration (EAO). A board-certified prosthodontist with the German Society of Prosthodontics and Biomaterials (DGPro), Att is an active member of several professional organizations, including the European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry (EAED), International Academy of Digital Dental Medicine, International College of Prosthodontists, and the Greater New York Academy of Prosthodontics.
He is past president of both the International Academy for Digital Dental Medicine (IADDM) and the Prosthodontics Group of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR), and currently serves as president of the Arabian Academy of Esthetic Dentistry (ARAED). A widely published and internationally respected clinician and lecturer, his work focuses on esthetic and implant dentistry and on advancing digital technologies in reconstructive and multidisciplinary care.
Dr. Florin Cofar received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Victor Babeș in Timișoara, Romania, in 2007. A second-generation dentist, he continues the legacy of his parents, who founded the Dentcof clinic in 1991. His work focuses on esthetic rehabilitation and complex cases that integrate orthodontic, implant, and minimally invasive restorative treatments, with a focus on pragmatic planning to create lasting smiles.
With more than 15 years of experience in interdisciplinary aesthetic dentistry, Cofar has lectured in over 60 countries, including engagements at AARD, EAED, Harvard University, KU Leuven, New York University, and the U.S. Air Force.
He is the co-author of Interdisciplinary Aesthetic Dentistry and co-founder of Smilecloud.com, a platform that combines clinical expertise with technological innovation.
Dr. Ramón Gómez Meda earned his degree in dentistry from the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, and a PhD in Oral Pathology and Health from the University of Seville. He received the Thesis Award of the Autonomous Community of Galicia for Academic Excellence. He completed postgraduate training in periodontics and implantology (Madrid), occlusion and temporomandibular dysfunction (Valencia), and orthodontics (University of Santiago de Compostela).
An international lecturer, Gómez Meda specializes in periodontics, esthetic dentistry, and multidisciplinary treatment. He serves as director of the two-year master’s program in Implants and Implant Prosthesis at Universidad Alfonso X el Sabio in Madrid and as an adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Prosthodontics at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center School of Dentistry in New Orleans
He is also the founder of the MEDA Training Center in La Coruña, Spain, and maintains a private practice at the MEDA Institute in Ponferrada, Spain, where he focuses on multidisciplinary oral rehabilitation, advanced regenerative surgery, implant placement with hard and soft tissue management, and esthetic prosthodontics.
Dr. Chu-Chi (Ricky) Huang earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from National Taiwan University in 2021 and is a prosthodontics resident and Doctor of Medical Sciences (DMSc) candidate at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. He also conducts research at the ADA Forsyth Institute, focusing on nanoparticle-based local drug delivery systems.
Huang’s interests include digital dentistry, virtual articulation, biomaterials, implant dentistry, and artificial intelligence. His work has been recognized with first-place awards from the American College of Prosthodontists, the American Prosthodontic Society, and the Academy of Prosthodontics.
He practices prosthodontics and implantology under residency training, with a focus on comprehensive oral rehabilitation and esthetic reconstruction—bridging advanced digital workflows, biomaterials, and clinical prosthodontics.
Dr. Ronald E. Jung is trained in prosthodontics, implant therapy, and oral surgery. He serves as chair and clinic director of the Clinic of Reconstructive Dentistry at the Center of Dental Medicine, University of Zurich, Switzerland.
In 2006, Jung was a visiting associate professor in the Department of Periodontics at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He earned his PhD from the University of Amsterdam's ACTA Dental School in 2011. In 2013, he was a visiting associate professor in the Department of Restorative Dentistry and Biomaterials Sciences at Harvard School of Dental Medicine in Boston.
An internationally recognized lecturer and researcher, Jung is known for his work in hard- and soft-tissue management and for advancing new technologies in implant dentistry.
He is currently president of the ITI and a past president of the European Association for Osseointegration (EAO) and the Swiss Society of Reconstructive Dentistry. He also serves on the board of the Osteology Foundation.
Dr. Joseph Kan completed advanced training in prosthodontics and implant surgery at Loma Linda University (LLU). He is a professor in the Advanced Education in Implant Dentistry program at LLU and an adjunct clinical professor in the Department of Periodontics and Oral Medicine at the University of Michigan.
Kan has received numerous national and international honors, including the Academy of Osseointegration Best Research Award, the Judson Hinckey Scientific Award, the Robert James Implant Dentistry Award, honorary membership in the Association of Dental Implantology (U.K.), the LLU Distinguished Research Award, and the Greater New York Academy of Prosthodontists Distinguished Speaker Award. In 2021, he received honorary membership and the Clinical Research Award from the American Academy of Periodontology.
He serves on the editorial boards of the International Journal of Esthetic Dentistry and the Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry, and he is secretary of the Academy of Osseointegration Executive Board of Directors. His research impact includes multiple publications ranked among the 100 most-cited articles in implant dentistry and prosthodontics.
Kan has authored more than 150 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and lectures nationally and internationally on interdisciplinary treatment planning, peri-implant soft tissue management, connective tissue grafting, and immediate tooth replacement.
Dr. Nikos Mattheos is a periodontist, researcher, academic educator, and digital entrepreneur. He currently serves as the 2nd Century Fund Visiting Professor of Implant Dentistry at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand; Honorary Professor of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry at the University of Hong Kong; and affiliated researcher with the Faculty of Dental Medicine at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden.
Mattheos maintains a private practice focused on oral rehabilitation and implant dentistry in Hong Kong, where he is also a director of a startup in digital dental technology. His research explores emerging technologies and the digitization of implant therapy, the impact of prosthesis design on clinical outcomes, computer-assisted implant surgery, and tissue regeneration.
His work has been published in more than 170 peer-reviewed journals, and he has received numerous honors, including the International Association for Dental Research Award in 2003 and 2013 and the André Schroeder Award in 2014 and 2021.
Mattheos is head of the International Team for Implantology (ITI) Education Committee, a member of the ITI Board of Directors, and a long-serving ITI Fellow. He has held faculty positions in Sweden, Australia, and Hong Kong, where he developed and directed postgraduate programs in implant dentistry and served as Associate Dean for Postgraduate Education and Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Education at the University of Hong Kong.
Dr. Puišys is an accomplished periodontist and founder of VIC Clinic, a leading private dental practice with 20 operatories in Vilnius, Lithuania. He earned his DDS from Vilnius University in 2002, completed a residency in periodontology at the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences in 2006, and received his PhD from Vilnius University in 2016.
A Fellow of the International Team for Implantology (ITI), Dr. Puišys has published more than 40 scientific papers and placed over 20,000 dental implants. He is a three-time winner of the European Association for Osseointegration (EAO) Clinical Research Competition (2012 Copenhagen, 2022 Geneva, 2025 Monaco) and a recipient of the 2025 André Schröder Prize.
Dr. Puišys contributed to the Zero Bone Loss Concepts book (Quintessence) and developed a successful online dental education program. An active international speaker, he leads live courses in Lithuania that attract more than 400 participants each year.
Dr. Ausra Ramanauskaite is a specialist in periodontology and oral surgery.
She currently serves as a senior oral surgeon and associate professor in the Department of Oral Surgery and Implantology at Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany. Ramanauskaite is a member of the leadership group of the National Osteology Groups Germany and serves on the Osteology Foundation Expert Council. She is also an advisor to the Editorial Board of the European Association for Osseointegration (EAO).
Ramanauskaite has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and is active in research on peri-implant pathology and soft- and hard-tissue regeneration.
Dr. Alexandra Rendón earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) and Master of Science in Periodontology and Implantology from the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León in Mexico. She continued her postgraduate training at the University of Bologna in Italy, where she obtained master’s degrees in Soft Tissue Management Around Teeth and Implants and in Periodontology and Clinical Implantology.
At the University of Bologna, she served as a clinical tutor and lecturer in the postgraduate periodontology programs while conducting clinical research in the Department of Periodontology. She was later awarded an International Team for Implantology (ITI) Scholarship to pursue research and clinical training at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine.
Rendón now maintains a private practice focused exclusively on periodontics and oral implantology. She is the author of several publications in international scientific journals and a frequent invited speaker at international conferences.
Dr. Marta Revilla-Leon is faculty and director of research and digital dentistry at the Kois Center. She earned her PhD in Prosthodontics and Digital Dentistry from ACTA University in Amsterdam, her MSD in Prosthodontics from the University of Washington in Seattle, and her MS in Esthetic Dentistry from the Complutense University of Madrid.
A specialist in digital dentistry, Dr. Revilla-Leon has published more than 200 peer-reviewed articles over the past four years on topics including facial and intraoral scanning methods, virtual patient integration, digital implant scans, polymer, metal, and ceramic 3D printing, CAD software, and artificial intelligence in dental applications. She also serves as affiliate faculty in the graduate Prosthodontics Program at the University of Washington in Seattle.
Dr. Irena Sailer is chair of the Division of Fixed Prosthodontics and Biomaterials at the University of Geneva and an honorary Skou professor at Aarhus University, Denmark. She also holds adjunct and senior academic appointments at U.S. institutions, including the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine and Columbia University.
Sailer received her dental degree from the University of Tübingen, Germany, and has held faculty appointments in Europe and the United States, including at the University of Zurich. Her academic experience includes visiting and adjunct roles at New York University and the University of Pennsylvania.
Her work focuses on restorative dentistry, implant prosthodontics, biomaterials, and digital dental technologies. She is a certified specialist in prosthodontics and holds a certificate of focused practice in dental implantology from the Swiss Society for Dentistry. She has held leadership roles in major professional organizations, including the European Association of Osseointegration and the European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry, and is an active fellow of the Greater New York Academy of Prosthodontics.
Sailer serves as editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Prosthodontics and has authored or co-authored more than 230 peer-reviewed publications, seven book chapters, and a clinical monograph on fixed restorations. She also holds multiple patents related to esthetic dental coatings and digital dental splint technologies.
