Becoming a patient

Frequently asked questions
Depending on the care you need, you may be treated by a student dentist in the third or fourth year of Harvard’s Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) program or by a licensed dentist completing advanced specialty training. Harvard faculty supervise your care and review your treatment plan.
At the Harvard Dental Center, third- and fourth-year dental students provide care under the supervision of Harvard faculty. Faculty guide their work and review treatment plans as part of the educational process. Appointments may take longer to allow time for instruction and review, and fees are generally lower than those at a private dental practice.

New patients seeking general dental care begin with a required 15-minute Oral Diagnosis (OD) screening. We’ll review your medical history and perform a brief exam to determine the appropriate next steps for your care. No treatment or cleaning is provided at this first visit. Specialty clinics may have different intake requirements.
Please bring a photo ID, your dental insurance card if you have one, any recent dental X-rays, and a payment method.
We are in network with select dental insurance plans, including Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Commonwealth Care Alliance (CCA)/Scion, Cambridge Health Alliance, Delta Dental Premier, MassHealth, MetLife, Ryan White, and UnitedHealthcare. Coverage may vary by plan and service. Please call 617-432-1434 before your visit to confirm your coverage.
We also accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover.
